SALLY BLACK
Sally has contributed her energy to Koala Playschool for over 7 years. We are a community based not-for profit organisation. Historically we have had some periods of dire finances, and uncertainty in our operational premises and we are fortunate that Sally has stayed a loyal advocate of 3-year-old preschool at Koala’s during this time. She continually works additional hours each week and during school holidays that are unpaid due to the tight budget constraints of the organisation.
Now that we have our own premises Sally, our programme and our children are thriving beyond our expectations. Sally’s strengths are her openness and receptiveness to the needs and suggestions in the parent community at Koala Playschool. She has a unique way of ascertaining the strengths and talents of our parents and encourages them to assist and enhance the children’s program. Her enthusiasm and drive to involve parents in the children’s learning has resulted in the development of children’s kitchen garden, a native garden planting, science shows, musician parents being involved and balloon art shows!
Sally’s passion is evident on entry to Koala Playschool and this in turn creates a warm and welcoming environment. We are starting to see whole “generations” of families participate in our Playschool programme. This speaks volumes, as families are continually choosing to be involved and return to our service year after year.
Sally may be in a paid teaching position however Sally delivers above and beyond the scope expected in her position. Through orgainsing working bees, physically pitching in when we moved premises, consulting tirelessly with architects and builders whilst conducting interviews for staff and new children Sally has demonstrated a drive and motivation for Koalas that becomes contagious to all families involved.
All of these events and activities have the single motivation of improving and developing Koala playschool to be the best it can possibly be for the benefit of the children who participate in our programme.
Sally’s contribution to Koala Playschool, their children and families is immeasurable and invaluable. As the “face” of Koalas she brings joy and delight to children, families and those she meets in her capacity as Director at Koala Playschool.
We have nominated Sally so that we may acknowledge her contribution and thank her for sharing her unique talents with us all.
