Enrolment Information
Koala Playschool sessions are run in four ten week terms that align with the school year and the ACT Department of Education school holidays.
To be eligible for an offer of placement, your child must be 3 years of age or be turning 3 prior to 30th April in their year of attendance.
Children under 3 who are offered placement at Koala Playschool must be accompanied by a parent or carer until their 3rd birthday.

Note: We are dedicated to making our services affordable to our valued families and are in the process of applying for the Child Care Subsidy (CSS). We hope to offer Koala families the CCS subsidy in 2026. Once we are successful in applying for CCS, we will update our website to reflect this.

Parent Roster Duty
Condition of enrolment
Parent roster duty at Koala Playschool is a mandatory condition of enrolment where parents or carers assist staff during session times. It is necessary to help maintain the required adult-to-child ratios and allow staff to take their designated lunch breaks.
Responsibilities and Purpose
-
Assisting Staff: Parents help educators with various tasks, such as supervising children during activities, wiping down tables, washing paintbrushes, reading stories, or assisting with special projects like gardening or cooking.
-
Maintaining Ratios: The primary purpose is to ensure the playschool consistently meets or exceeds the recommended adult-to-child supervision ratios as required by ACT Childcare Standards.
-
Community Building: The roster system is an excellent opportunity for parents to observe their child interacting with others, meet their child's friends and teachers, and feel more connected to the playschool community.
-
Sharing Expertise: Parents are encouraged to share their skills or expertise (e.g., music, gardening) with the children during their shifts.
Roster Requirements
The number of shifts required depends on the child's enrolment:
-
Start Of The Week : Children attending the Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday sessions are expected to complete three half-day shifts per child, per term.
-
End Of The Week : Children attending the Thursday/Friday sessions are expected to complete two half-day shifts per child, per term.
Shift Times
Shifts are typically split into two half-day options:
-
Morning shift: 9:15 AM – 12:30 PM.
-
Afternoon shift: 11:30 AM – 2:45 PM.
Parents select their preferred times on a roster sheet provided each term. Participation is compulsory, and failure to meet the roster requirements may affect enrolment status.
